The Scent of a “Flower”~Wedding Flowers Folsom, CA~

Do you love the scent of flowers? Most flowers have their own unique scent, some we love, and some we don’t! Our senses dance when we smell something so wonderful, it evokes a feeling, a memory and a moment in time.

I love this photo of my bride Kristen, from last July taking in the sweet smell of her “toss” Bouquet!

Choosing wedding flowers can be tough if you are sensitive to certain scents. Flowers for your guest tables is something else to take into consideration. A highly fragrant flower arrangement may be difficult for your guests to either enjoy their meal or they may be sensitive as well.  Choosing flowers with less scent may be a better option. Or if you love a highly scented flower, you can always add just a “few” to your arrangements, so it is not too overpowering. Here is a wonderful list of some more commonly used wedding flowers and the categories which they fall under to help you decide what you may love or need to stay away from.

Heavy/Exotic Scented Flowers

Gardenia
Narcissus
Oriental lily, particularly Casablanca (pure white), Le Reve
(pale pink), & Stargazer (white edges with dark pink throat)
Peony
Stephanotis
Tuberose (Polianthes)

Aromatic Scented Flowers & Greens

Eucalyptus foliage, rub leaves for the full effect
Lavender foliage
Grape hyacinth (Muscari) = faint musk
Rosemary foliage

Spicy/Peppery Scented Flowers

Chrysanthemum
Florists’ broom (Genista)
Freesia
Hypericum = spicy
Pink (Dianthus) = sweet clove
Stock

Sweet/Flowery Scented Flowers

Carnations
Freesia

Hyacinth
Lilac (Syringa)
Lily of the valley (Convallaria)
Phlox
Rose, Garden Roses
Sweet pea

Citrus Scented Flowers

Mimosa(Acacia)
Waxflower (Chamelaucium) = lemon and marzipan scent
Eucharis = delicate lemon curd scent
Myrtle = Okay, not technically a flower, but these greens have a wonderful
lemon scent

Soft & Romantic in Gold Country~Imperial Hotel, Amador City, CA-Wedding-Flowers-Folsom-Placerville-Gold Country

What can I say about Andrea and Kevin…. Just Perfect in every way!! They chose an intimate gathering of family and close friends to share their special day. The Imperial Hotel in Amador City, CA was the setting for the vintage, romantic feeling they wanted.  A beautiful rustic hotel, nestled in the Gold Country foothills.  Andrea came to me knowing what she wanted, soft, vintage pastels and “FLUFFY”!  I think I succeeded!  I gave her sweet smelling garden roses, hydrangea, ranunculus, dusty miller, spray rose. All the elements of a romantic beauty, just like my bride Andrea.

The photos were taken by Eleakis & Elder Photography are just stunning and capture every moment of the day! Love them all!

Rustic Romantic Wedding at the Forest House Lodge, Foresthill, CA-Folsom-Wedding Flowers

Rustic Romance & Love, was the theme of the day for Lindsey & Eric Taylor.  Lindsey had a vision that captured the  feel of her venue at the Forest House Lodge, Foresthill, CA.  There are many styles I love, but this one is by far one of my favorites!  I loved the textures, and unique mix of designs she chose.  I hung designs from the aisle chairs, that later were re-used on her guest tables.  A stunning sweetheart table design, graced the entrance of the room to give the “WoW” factor as you entered.  She chose all white hydrangea with curly willow for her bridesmaids.  Lindsey’s bouquet was beautiful mix of antique hydrangea, calla, roses, orchids, and wispy, woodsy textures.  I did a custom wrap on Lindsey’s bouquet, incorporating silk florets from her Mother’s bridal veil.  It is these sentimental touches that bring meaning to the most important flowers a bride will carry.  Lindsey definitely had a budget, but she knew where to splurge!  She even created her own branch designs for her guest tables, and many other personal touches that brought it all together. Lindsey has a flare for design, is now going to be working for  The Forest House Lodge, helping brides & grooms create their dreams! GO Lindsey!! It was a complete joy working with you to create your Dreams!

Modern meets Vintage~Wedding at Lake Natoma Inn, Folsom, CA-Folsom Wedding Flowers

Denise and Travas came to me with a designer’s dream! She said, “Here are my colors, we want a modern & vintage feel, I’ll leave it up to YOU!” WOW! Exciting! They were so fun to work with and I was able to be very creative.  As a  floral designer, when given full reign, would say we do our best, most beautiful work when we are given this trust.  It doesn’t matter about the budget, how big or small the wedding etc… It is about trust, and if you can’t trust your floral designer to see your vision, you have the wrong one! It’s about communication, trust and enjoying the process together!  Thank you again the Denise & Travas for trusting The Posh Posey! Photos via Heather Prettyman Photography.

Enchanted Backyard Garden Wedding, Folsom, CA-Folsom Wedding Flowers

I am so excited to share this beautiful backyard wedding of Yvette & Pat. This fabulous couple shared their love for each other in this intimate, backyard setting.  They chose lush, colorful blooms that were perfect for the enchanted garden feel they wanted.  Urns overflowing with hydrangea, orchids, garden roses, dahlias, hanging amaranthus, and curly willow created a natural arch for the couple heart felt nuptials.  They share eight grandchildren together, who were a special part of the day. The flower girls carried adorable floral fairy wands, sooo cute!  Yvette’s bouquet was a simple, elegant design of mini callas, cymbidium orchids, and a wisp of hanging amaranthus. The natural stone aisle was lined with floating orchids and candles.  I loved this wedding,it was love in it’s truest form. Intimate, heartfelt, and simply Blissful! Congrats again to Yvette & Pat!

Beautiful Lakeside Wedding in Lake Tahoe, CA-Folsom Wedding Flowers

Allison & Brad’s wedding day was nothing but spectaular!  The outdoor ceremony was simply beautiful, the blue waters of Lake Tahoe sparkling behind as a back drop.  Allison let her hubby to be choose the color “blue”  for the wedding, and it went perfect with the lush greens and crystal clear blue waters. Allisons’s bouquet consisted of hydrangea, vendela roses, cymbidium orchids, dendrobium orchids, touches of tweedia and curly willow loops. It was important Allison had orchids, because Brad proposed to her in Hawaii.  I loved Allison’s sentimental touches. A dear friend of the family made a custom “stump” cake stand, and placecard holders. Allison & Brad seemed to truly enjoy every moment of the day! Congrats! To Mr. & Mrs. Mayer! Vintage Glam Wedding at Monte Verde Inn, Foresthill, CA-Folsom Wedding Flowers

Can I just start by saying Kristen & Andy’s wedding was absolutely stunning! Everything from the ceremony to the beautiful reception at Monte Verde Inn, in Foresthill, CA. Kristen has been consulting with me since the beginning of her engagement, a year and a half ago! She wanted “Fluffy” and  romantic “Vintage Glam”.  It was all about the colors and choosing the perfect flowers.  Her bouquet consisted of Peony, English garden roses, schneeball hydrangea from Holland, and garden spray rose.  She accented her bouquet with a gorgeous locket that held a dear picture of her late Grandfather.  The palette of taupe’s, antique pinks, and ivory with splashes of soft peachy pinks, was simply beautiful against the bridesmaids dresses. Just perfect for the “vintage glam” feel!  When I design a wedding my first thought is the brides bouquet. It is the most important and the most meaningful to me, and this one was especially dear to my heart.

A great big thank you to Kristen & Andy for entrusting  The Posh Posey to create the most important flowers of their lives!

Please enjoy the gorgeous photos from Jessica Stout, Stoutphotography.com.

Springtime in the Sierra Foothills, CA-Folsom Wedding Flowers

On Sunday May 22, 2011, Natasha and Kyle got Hitched!  The threat of a little thunderstorm could not keep these two sweethearts from the alter!  They were married outside at the American River Resort, Coloma, CA. The sound of the rushing American River in the background. They chose beautiful, fragant garden roses, a mix of  sweetheart roses, and stock.  The mason jars they used on the reception tables, were Kyle’s Grandmother’s.  I love the sentimental touch, and a beautiful way to remember the ones not here.   These two are just the sweetest! Congratulations to Natasha and Kyle!
